Lex Luthor to return for Justice League: Part One

It’s been over two months and it seems people still can’t stop talking about the disappointment that was Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. While the sophomore film in the newly forming DCEU had a few redeeming qualities, the film wasn’t really what any of us wanted or expected. One thing that really bummed pretty much all of us was the new Lex Luthor. portrayed by the oscar-nominated star Jesse Eisenberg, Luthor was described by many with plenty of negative adjectives. so brace yourself, this news may not make you feel too good. At the MCM London Comic Con, Eisenberg confirmed that he would in fact be included in Justice League part One. Here’s some things he said on the subject:

“They just started filming Justice League, so I’m kind of like waiting for my crack at it. I don’t know what I’m allowed to say, because I feel like there’s probably some drone following me from DC, and if I say anything wrong I get, you know, picked off. But yeah I think so, and I love it, and I love everybody who’s in it. You know, it’s a really talented group of people.”

So not much info on what his role in this movie’s story or how large of a role that will be, steppenwolfhowever I do doubt this will be that big a role. With the rumors of Darkseid and Steppenwolf coming into the fold it seems our DC heroes have some bigger fish to fry.

So are you still disappointed he’s gonna be in JLPO? Or are you the one guy who really liked Jesse in this role? Talk in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more Justice League news and other things in the world of movie news.

BvS is hopefully out of your theater by now, likely replaced by some less disappointing fair. But if you’re hankering for another DC fix, on August 5th Suicide Squad comes to theaters. So look forward to that.

What’s Out?

This is a little thing I’m gonna start doing to just inform y’all of all the stuff coming out in theaters each week. Hope you enjoy!

So the first movie we’re gonna talk about is the superhero epic, X-Men: Apocalypse. This movie will finish off the new X-Men trilogy that started with X-Men: First Class in 2011 and continued with X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014. Here’s the official summary:

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto, to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven with the help of Professor X must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

This movie stars returning cast members Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Evan Peters, along with the new cast members Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Oscar Isaac (Apocalypse), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Ben Hardy (Angel), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), and Lana Condor (Jubilee). This movie currently has a 47% on Rotten Tomatoes from the critics and a 73% from the audience. I haven’t seen the movie yet, so it’s up to you whether you see this or the other movie coming out this weekend.

alice_through_the_looking_glassAnd that movie is Alice through the Looking Glass. The sequel to the 2010 movie Alice in WonderlandAlice through the Looking Glass is another example of Disney’s current obsession with live action versions of Disney classics. Here’s the summary:

Alice returns to the magical world of Underland, only to find the Hatter in a horrible state. With the help of her friends, Alice must travel through time to save the Mad Hatter and Underland’s fate from the evil clutches of the Red Queen and a clock like creature, known as Time.

This movie stars Johnny depp, Mia Wasikowska, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, and Sacha Baron Cohen and isn’t doing too hot critically. The movie has an absimal rating of 29% on Rotten Tomatoes from the critics and a decent rating of 64% from the fans. I also haven’t seen this yet so you decide which you wanna see this weekend.

With no official opinions on either of these movies, I suggest you go see The Nice Guys with Russel Crowe and Ryan Gosling. Just trust me.

So what are you gonna see this weekend? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on what’s coming each week and other things in the world of movie news.

Disney Continues to Kick the Dead Horse that is Live Action Remakes of Disney Classics

Like the title? I think this may be my favorite one yet. But anywho, Disney has made quite a few remakes in these most recent years and they don’t seem to be slowing down. Just within the last 6 years there has been the Alice in Wonderland movies (speaking of which, Alice through the Looking Glass arrives in theaters TODAY) , MaleficentThe Jungle Book (well that was partially live action but I’ll count it), and Cinderella. While some of these movies definitely do the originals justice, others are less than satisfactory. And there’s even more coming down the pipeline, possibly even one for our favorite semi-aquatic creature.

That’s right! Ariel, Flounder, and the rest of the undersea gang may be gracing the big screen once again in a live action adaptation of the blockbuster animated film, The Little Mermaid. Realize this isn’t officially happening just yet, however considering Disney’s recent love of live action remakes it doesn’t seem unlikely.

The only real question now is when this will happen, if it actually does. An adaptation of neon_0001_largethe original Hans Christian Anderson book The Little Mermaid is currently stuck in development at Universal, so Disney may be hoping to get in first like they did with The Jungle Book. Within the coming weeks and months we shall see which studio will prevail and I have decided to never bet against Disney. I mean, Universal can’t even use any of the original 1989 movie’s songs. It’s kind of a no-brainer.

But what do you think? Are you rooting for Universal to step up and get their movie done? Or are you on the Disney train with yours truly? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on a Little Mermaid live action film and more in the world of movie news.

It is unclear when either of these movies will come out. However if you want to get a taste of live action Disney, Alice through the Looking Glass just came out today so go see that (at your own risk)!

Saban’s Power Rangers Could Get up to Six Sequels

Every generation has a thing that they and they alone can truly claim. Be it disco or tie dye, Poodle skirts or Michael Jackson, there are some things that just define a generation. One example of this is none other than the Power Rangers. A staple of 90’s pop culture in America, the series lives on in many forms, one form being the coming movie so modestly titled Saban’s Power Rangers.

The film, set to hit theaters March of 2017, stars a group of fairly unknown young actors and actresses and will be a sort of reworking of the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers’ characters and storyline. Now, I have been quite skeptical of this movie and its possibility for success at the box office for some time now, but it seems Lionsgate (The studio behind this movie) is pretty confident that this movie will be nothing short of a hit.

CEO of Lionsgate Jon Feltheimer recently said some very things regarding this coming movie. “We are really, really excited about the ‘Power Rangers’ movie. We could see doing five or six or seven.” Wow. And I thought James Cameron was crazy saying he was gonna make like three more Avatar movies. This shows that Lionsgate must have a lot of faith in this new property.

But when you think about it, their confidence in this property isn’t totally misguided. The Power Rangers television series has been running for 24 seasons and currently shows no signs of stopping. However, one must remember that the Power Rangers have ventured into the world of cinema before with mixed results. While the 1995 movie made $66 million on a $15 million budget, the second film (titled Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie) only made $9.6 million in the global box office.

So what do you think? Are you down with 6+ Power Rangers movies? Are you even going to see the first movie? Talk about it in comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on Saban’s Power Rangers and other things in the world of movie news.

Saban’s Power Rangers comes to theaters March 24th, 2017.

Netflix to Exclusively host all Disney Films come September

I know this in its simplest from don’t have anything to do with sequels, prequels or remakes (oh my!), but this is big news that I think everyone in the US and Canada needs to hear.

Have you ever been planing to watch a movie or finish that one TV show and then you turn on Netflix and it’s gone. That’s a struggle we deal with all the time, but this new deal with Disney is gonna give us at least a few movies we can be sure to hold on to. This exclusive deal made between Netflix and Disney means all Disney movies to come out post this September will be goinforceawakens-hamill-endingg to Netflix. For all the nerds out there, that includes anything by Lucasfilm, Marvel, and Pixar as well. See, I told ya. Big news! But the small sad part is that it only includes the movies that come out post-September. So no Captain America: Civil War, no Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and no Finding Dory. But don’t be bummed. At least we’ll have Episode 8 and Doctor Strange to look forward to.

As for just Netflix in general, over this Summer they will be adding a bunch of new movies you’ll want to see along with old favorites and that new Adam Sandler movie. Here’s a link to a little video on that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h37iuBD4azI

So what do you think? This seems like all around good news to me! But are you so bummed that TFA won’t be on there that you wanna scrap the idea completely? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on Disney and other things in the world of movie news.

This deal goes into place this September. And although this deal does not include Civil War, there’s still time to see it in theaters! You can check out my non-spoiler review for that here.

Update on Shazam Movie

10-facts-you-might-not-know-about-dc-s-shazam-779358Yes, it seems this movie is still happening. With the dark demeanor of the DCEU, many a fan has thought this movie just couldn’t happen. But with Geoff Johns saying that he will bring “hope and optimism” to the cinematic universe he now champions, this update from Hiram Garcia, producer of this upcoming adaptation, seems very timely. In talking with comicbook.com, Garcia discussed the progress of the film, along with his personal connection with this character.

“We’re a good way into development. We’re expecting a next draft soon which I think is really gonna put us in the zone that we’re hoping for. The great thing with Shazam for me as a fan, I was always a fan of Superman and his mythology as I grew up. I remember it was Alex Ross’s Kingdom Come that was the first time that ever made me look at Shazam just differently. I just knew of Shazam, you know the name, you knew the word, but I thought Alex Ross… He portrayed him and drew him in that epic kind of conflict that him and Superman ultimately had. It just made me look at Shazam in way like this is a bad motherf***er.”

So for all the people who bet this wasn’t happening, Ha! It seems you haven’t won yet! And to make this even better Hiram talked about how the movie would keep a similar atmosphere to that of the comics.

“Our take on that world is first and foremost, movies like that can be grounded and can have real stakes but can still be fun. That’s the place we always want it to come from. We have a character in Shazam that is a boy who is in this man’s body who is having the ultimate fulfillment that I think all comic book fans and everyone can associate with. Like, what if you wake up one day and you can just do all this great stuff? And then on the other side, you have this force of nature who is really anchored by what he lost in his family and that thread that he’s bringing with him throughout this journey. There’s a real grounding there. That combination of youth and enthusiasm and being in new to a world and then the place that Adam’s coming from. It makes for a great dynamic that not only allows us to have not only real stakes, real story, and real emotion, but a ton of fun in the process. There’s no reason that there should ever be a version of this story told that’s devoid of that. That’s our goal in doing this: following the path of the films that have been coming out and have done such a good job.”

Garcia also talked about how the movie would be tonally, using the MCU as an example, and how the more positive tone of a Shazam movie would fit into the darker universe of the DCEU:

“Marvel has, everyone knows, really locked into that place where they’re able to tell you really grounded, rooted stories that have real repercussions and there’s a real wake that’s left after what’s done but while through the whole process they still acknowledge that, you have a blast while you’re watching that. They find the moments where you’re constantly having fun and you’re able to go on the ride and that’s the place we’re gonna be playing in. I promise you dude, we’re not gonna f*** this up! My vision is so clear for this story and this movie. As story tellers, you sometimes get on projects but this has always been a priority. I’ve been carrying the Black Adam torch for so many years before we finally locked it in and I’m telling you we’re gonna knock this thing out of the park. It’s gonna be a blast and it’s gonna be a dope ride, so get ready!”

It’s hard for one not to be uplifted by Garcia’s enthusiasm over this property. And his willingness to not f*** this up is always a good sign. And as for me, I was never really familiar with the Shazam character, besides the fact that he turns from a boy to a man, so now I am incredibly intrigued. And to top that all off, this movie may just be the ray of light the DCEU needs to may the darkness a bit more bearable.

So what do you think? Are you still anti-Shazam or have you joined me and Hiram on the Shazam party bus? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on Shazam and other things in the world of movie news

Shazam comes to US theaters April 5th, 2019.

#GiveElsaAGirlfriend Campaign gets Idina Menzel’s Approval

Disney has been known for many things throughout its long existence. its animated masterpieces, its expensive amusement parks, and their princesses. While many of their iconic feminine characters have been the subject to much scrutiny, one princess (or should I say queen) has been praised for her strength and her beliefs: Elsa.

Since her debut in the 2013 megahit Frozen, Elsa’s  fanbase has only grown larger. And parents and everyone else with ears be warned, Elsa and all her friends will be returning to the silver screen soon enough. Get ready for the renditions of whatever hit song comes out of this coming sequel.

But on to some less worrying news (depending on what your worldview is), a very interesting fan campaignnis rising in popularity. The #GiveElsaAGirlfriend campaign is rooting for our favorite ice queen to comes out of the closet in Frozen 2 and find a GF, and it sees to be picking up steam. The voice of Elsa, Idina Menzel is in fact in support of this idea and is open to seeing Elsa go in this direction.

Menzel stated “I think it’s great. Disney’s just gotta contend with that. I’ll let them figure that out. No matter what, [Elsa] changed my life.” So in reality this is a pretty standard statement. Just expansive enough to sound like agreement but still very reserved. Not to say that she isn’t actually into this idea, but we should just make that assumption.

But this’d probably be a good move for Disney. The Lgbt community has been on their back for a bit mow about their lack of lgbt characters in their movies. This would also take a character who is already extremely popular  and make her an lgbt symbol in children’s media. So who knows? Maybe Disney just might go for it.

But what do you think? Should Elsa have a GF? Should she have fire powers? Do you think Disney should just leave sexuality out of kids movies? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news of on Frozen 2 and other things in the world of movie news.

Frozen 2 doesn’t have a release date just yet, but I’ll make sure to tell you when it finally gets one.
