Ever since first seeing him on the silver screen in Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland has been praised for his iteration of the beloved character Spiderman. He had a lot to live up to to the casual moviegoer and comic book fan alike, and he definitely delivered. Now for many of us Civil War has come and gone, making it time to look to the future. That’s right, we’re talking Spiderman: Homecoming. With a cast that’s slowly forming a very interesting film and an alleged John Hughes-y feel, each tid bit we can learn about the film just adds to the excitement.
One thing that we may no longer have to ponder is who will be our villain. For seemingly forever we’ve been hearing about Vulture being the villain. Well those rumors have finally been confirmed, with a bit of a twist. It seems Vulture will not be the only villain to join the webslinger come 2017, just the main one. The winged villain will be joined by The Tinkerer who will help him create his flying suit of armor. Oh and guess what material this suit’s gonna be made out of? Take a moment, really think about it. Did you say “recovered alien tech from when the Chitauri attacked New York in The Avengers“? If so, wow. You must be a great guesser. But yeah once again everything is connected, unless you’re in the MCUTV universe [insert sad laughter].
Now that that’s settled, there’s still the subject of who will get to playing these villains. While still nothing has come in on The Tinkerer, it seems we have our Vulture. And it’s someone we never expected: Michael Keaton. I know, I know. If you missed my article from a few weeks ago here are the dets (is it just me, or does that look weird typed?): Michael Keaton was in talks to play the villain we at the time only assumed was Vulture, but he was said to have decided to stay out of the project. But new reports are saying that not only is Michael Keaton back in talks with Marvel about joining the role, he is in final negotiations for it. It’s unclear why we he left and why he came back, but don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, right?
Along with this news comes some other details on Spidey, more specifically his suit. It is reported that Tony will be giving Spiderman’s outfit a bit of an upgrade, that upgrade being Spidey’s Web Wings from the comics. These wings allow him to glide, which may be useful when fighting a flying Michael Keaton. So with a cast that seems to be shaping up quite well and a new suit, Spiderman: Homecoming seems like a movie worth looking forward to. Let us hope it doesn’t disappoint.
What do you think? Is Michael Keaton the perfect choice? Were you still kinds hoping that Venom would get his second chance on the screen with Spidey?
