Don’t you just love Jennifer Lawrence? She just seems lovely. I mean i’ve never met her, but let a girl dream. While she really broke out in the leading role of Katniss in The Hunger Games, Lawrence joined a group of pretty much unknowns for X-Men: First Class. This 1960’s set superhero movie not only brought back the X-Men franchise, but helped make superstars of many of its main actors. Now the final movie in this trilogy looms overhead like a dark cloud and with it the end of the contracts of James MacAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and yes Jennifer Lawrence. The actors only signed on for a three movie deal, so after Apocalypse they all can jump ship if they so choose. In an interview with EW , J. Law discussed the possibility of her sticking with the franchise.
“I would love to come back,” says Lawrence. “I love the fans and I love the character. But then you realize how important your year is, like how important three months out of your year is. I don’t know. I shouldn’t be that honest.”
This points out a think a lot people don’t think about. These are busy people. Jennifer Lawrence is one of the biggest stars in the country, and even if she does love this franchise surely this isn’t all she wants to do. We can’t all be Hugh Jackman. It’s sad, but it’s true. Spending several months every like two years for the next X-Men movie is a lot of time out of her life. So let’s just consider that. In this interview J.Law. also mentions something interesting that came up with McAvoy and Fassbender.
“Fassbender and McAvoy and I were all talking,” she says, “Like, ‘Will you come back?’ ‘I dunno.’ ‘I’ll come back, if you come back.’ Fox should be terrified because the deal we made was like if one of us doesn’t come back, none of us are.”
I enjoy that they sound like a couple of high school kids deciding whether they’re gonna go to a party or not. These guys love the franchise, but it seems to me that what they really enjoy is hanging out with each. Why join a film if you know your buds are gonna be off doing Assassin’s Creed 2 or some drama. So while I understand what she’s saying, this looks like it could turn out really well or really bad. All or nothing is a scaring proposition, but sometimes you gotta take the risk.
So what do you think? Is J. Law. gonna come back for another X-Men trilogy? Or do you think the gang is done and its time for Tye Sheridan and Sophie Turner to step up?
