Ready Player One is an amazing Sci-fi novel just waiting to become a reality. I don’t own a lot of books, so the fact that I own this one should be indication enough that this is something to look into. Here’s a summary:
In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade’s devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world’s digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator’s obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.
But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade’s going to survive, he’ll have to win—and confront the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.
So as can be seen from this summary (thank Amazon for that), this whole premise is awesome. And to top that off, it’s being made into a movie! Ever since the great Steven Spielberg announced that he would be directing this, more and more great actors and actresses have been joining the ranks. And here’s another great example.
T.J. Miller, fresh off his brilliant role as Weasel in Deadpool, has been cast as i-R0k. In the novel, i-R0k is the epitome of douchedom. A classic internet troll, if you will. He is not liked, but tolerated. This is role that Miller seems to be fairly familiar with, being that his character in Silicon Valley is pretty much that. I-R0k doesn’t have much of a role in the original novel, but in the original novel he wasn’t played by T.J. Miller. Surely he will make the role memorable as he always does.
Along with Miller this cast includes Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Apocalypse) as Wade Watts, Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel) as Art3mis, Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies) as deceased supernerd James Halliday, Simon Pegg (Star Trek) as Ogden Morrow, and Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline) as the evil Nolan Sorrento. There are still a few more characters left to be cast, but we have a bit of time before this hits theaters. Fingers crossed the wait is worth it.
But what do you think? Is T.J. Miller perfect or did you have someone else in mind? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on the Ready Player One movie and other things in the world of movie news.
Ready Player One is set to come to theaters March 30th, 2018. But if you want a little taste before the film, buy the book here. Or go to your local library, they probably have a copy.
