Every year we get a few great popcorn movies that allow you to sit down and turn off your brain for two hours. One franchise that has been the epitome of that is the Fast & Furious franchise. Best known for it’s gorgeous cars and big explosions, these movies get churned out frequently and make a decent action movie pretty much every time. And one more thing is that these movies get a lot of great actors to join their ranks. In just this coming movie we already have the brilliant actress Charlize Theron joining up and now another great actor is coming into the fold.

Actress Helen Mirren has been cast in the fast approaching Fast & Furious 8. During an index_137_3489121470interview Mirren did will Elle, she offhandedly stated that she was indeed a part of the project. Here are her exact words:

“[Eye in the Sky] fits in very, very well with what I want to be doing. I want to be making film and theater, but film is particularly relevant. I like it to be serious. Of course, having said that I’m about to do Fast and Furious 8. But that’s for the fun of it. So maybe that’s what I want as well, some fun and some relevant, serious, important movies.”

You can check out the full interview here, however the majority of it focuses on Mirren’s new film Eye in the Sky. This choice of actress may seem a bit odd, but Helen Mirren is actually a great addition. While action isn’t her main genre, Mirren’s role in the Red franchise was well received in each of the movies. Not to mention, she was talking about wanting to join the F&F franchise just last year. So this seems like a great fit.

What do you think? Is she a great addition or too old? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on Fast 8 and other things in the world of movie news.

Fast 8 comes to US theaters April 17th, 2017.
