What’s Out? 9/9 Edition

It is another fine day this lovely Friday afternoon. I am your resident movie junkie and this is “What’s Out?” Here I’ll give you an overview of all the big stuff coming to the big screen. So let’s hop to it!

Sully – Clint Eastwood

The next Oscar bait film to come up to bat is the newest Clint Eastwood film Sully. This movie, being the first biopic of the Oscar season, has captured the attention of many thanks to its well beloved lead (Tom Hanks) and the guy behind the camera. It has been on my radar more so for its story than that stuff. Sully follows pilot Chesley Sullenberger who famously landed his plane in the Hudson after some geese flew into the engine. The movie mostly follows the aftermath of said water landing and to me that sound pretty interesting. It stands on Rotten Tomatoes with a certified fresh rating of 83%, which doesn’t surprise me at all.

When the Bough Breaks – Jon Cassar

Now for something a bit trippier, When the Bough Breaks. Starring a largely African American cast, this movie sounds like something out of the best kind of novel. This movie starring Morris Chestnut and Regina Hall revolves around what happens when a surrogate becomes obsessed with the father of the baby she’s holding. Now does that sound like a Lifetime movie or what? But a good Lifetime movie. While the movie doesn’t have a score on Rotten Tomatoes yet, I’m very intrigued. The director’s been doing mostly TV work but two Emmys gotta count for something, right?

The Disappointments Room – D.J. Caruso

Now this one I hadn’t heard about until I looked up what was coming out this week, so not the best time. I haven’t seen any type of marketing for this at all. But it stars an X-Man (Lucas Till) and Kate Beckinsale and is a horror movie, so that’s fun. The IMDB description of it is “A mother and her young son release unimaginable horrors from the attic of their rural dream home.” Sounds fun. And interestingly enough Wentworth Miller of Fox’s Prison Break and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow was one of the writers on this movie. So if that sweetens the pot for you by all means, go see it. And report back because I’m not gonna waste my hard earned cash on it unless I hear good things.

The Wild Life – Vincent Kesteloot and Ben Stassen

And for something weird and out of place we have The Wild Life. It’s basically the tale of Robinson Crusoe told from the perspective of a parrot. Yes, you heard that correctly. Why this isn’t straight to VOD I don’t know. It stands at a very predictable 18% on Rotten Tomatoes and looks gross. I mean I like that Pixar isn’t this only animation game in town but this is just not a good use of anyone’s time. Or maybe I’ll see it in 3 years and realize it’s actually the best thing ever. Doubtful, but who knows?

So that’s everything new coming out this weekend. My first pick would have to be Sully, but When the Bough Breaks is a close second. To be honest anything that isn’t The Wild Life is fine. So what’re you seeing? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on what’s out and other things in the world of movie news.
