I am getting back to these and this is a great week to do it. Let’s get to why:
Logan – James Mangold
There are a lot of superhero movies coming out this year, but this has to be my most anticipated. It’s hard to believe that this is the last time Hugh Jackman will grace the big screen as everyone’s favorite mutant, but that doesn’t make it any less true. But instead of this being a sad moment, let us focus on the now and how the awesomest X-Men movie is about to come out. This movie takes pages from the Old Man Logan comic line and has created a version that is bloodier and grittier than we’ve ever seen in theaters. Alongside Jackman we have Patrick Stewart as an aging Professor X and young Dafne Keen playing a new clawed chaTheracter called X-23 (or Laura). This movie seems to be the most dramatic X-men movie to date, which seems fitting for Jackman’s last hurrah. If you haven’t already gotten tickets, I suggest you find yourself some to truly cherish this moment.
Before I Fall – Ry Russo-Young
This one of the lesser options of the weekend. Based on the Lauren Oliver book of the same name, Before I Fall seems to be a cheap YA version Groundhog Day. Not to insult Lauren Oliver, I am a fan of some of her series’. However this doesn’t seem super interesting. In short, a mean girl gets killed in a car accident and then wakes up and the day’s starting over. When the day keeps happening over and over she tries to make it stop. There isn’t really anyone big in this, unless you happen to be a fan of Zoey Deutch or Liv Hewson. Actually Hewson was great in The Santa Clarita Diet so I shouldn’t rag on her. But anyway this doesn’t seem that cool so just good see Logan.
The Shack – Stuart Hazeldine
And for the random, out-of-nowhere Christian movie that has a surprisingly decent cat, we have The Shack. Starring Sam Worthington and Octavia Spencer, is about a man who is invited to meet with God in a place called “The Shack”. It is unclear if this is an actual shack or not, but that is probably unimportant. I love Octavia Spencer, but I am not seeing this movie. But you can if you so choose. I didn’t know this movie existed till like a week ago, so do with that information what you will.
So what are you seeing? Do you think this is really Hugh Jackman’s last run as Wolverine? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more info on what’s out and other things in the world of movie news.
