Another weekend is on its way, and with it another Box Office Battle. This week only has one movie coming out, but boy will this shake up the box office. So let’s look at the stats:

The Fate of the Furious

Director: F. Gary Gray

Stars: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Charlize Theron, Scott Eastwood, Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Nathalie Emmanuel, Kurt Russell, Helen Mirren, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 65%

To shake up April, we have The Fate of the Furious. This is likely to be the biggest movie out this month and will undoubtedly bring the Summer season (which gets earlier every year) off to a good start. What interests me most is what F. Gary Gray (director of Straight Outta Compton) brings to this movie. I have never seen a Fast and Furious movie, but they aren’t exactly know for their excellent plot and character building.  But Straight Outta Compton was such an interesting story told in such an interesting way, I can’t help but think F. Gary Gray will bring something interesting to this franchise. And also one has to wonder how this movie will compare to Furious 7 in box office. That movie broke records in way that no one could have expected. So will that success grace Fate of the Furious as well? At the moment, the movie is tracking at $110+ million domestically, which is less than its predecessor by only by $30ish million. And also Furious 7 did way better than what it was projected to, so I suppose we shall see.

Who Will Win?

This one is pretty obvious. Being the only new movie coming out wide this weekend, it will be number one. The real question is by how much? As you can see the Rotten Tomatoes score could be better, but this movie is fresh. I don’t think it’ll make any less than what it’s tracking at, especially with heavy hitters like Charlize Theron and Kurt Russell joining the fold. It’ll blow everything out of the water undoubtedly.

So are you seeing The Fate of the Furious this weekend? Do you think anything can top Furious 7? Talk about it in the comments, and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more Box Office Battles and other things in the world of movies.
