[Danger: Contains one big spoiler I probably could exclude but I don’t want to. But you should’ve seen The Force Awakens by now anyway]
Almost a year ago Star Wars came back with a vengeance with the record smashing Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens. Revitalizing the Star Wars brand, The Force Awakens helped a new generation fall in love with the classic film franchise and because of that Lucasfilm is doing all it can to
milk us of our hard earned cash create a variety of quality programming for us to enjoy for years to come. So along with the main movies with Rey and Finn and the whole gang, there are to be a set of anthology movies that come out in between the main movies. The first of these anthology films (which are technically called Star Wars Stories but that sounds weird and less intense) is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (See what I mean?) which comes out this December 16th.It will definitely be something interesting, but right now most people are paying attention to what’s to come after.
That’s right, the next anthology film to come out will be a young Han Solo movie. I say this as if it is news, but if you know Star Wars you know this. But let us recap some important details. First off, the movie is to be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Those are the guys behind successes like The Lego Movie and the Jump Street franchise, so this will surely be awesome. Secondly, Chewie will be in this film, so that’s bomb. And lastly, Alden Ehrenreich is to play the iconic role of Han Solo. While no one will ever replace Harrison Ford in the role, I think this could maybe be a good choice. I barely remember Beautiful Creatures but he was probably good in it.
Now for the actual news (drum roll please) … Donald Glover has been cast as young Lando Calrissian in the young Han Solo movie!!!! This is awesome news. In August it was rumored that Glover was at the top of the list to play Lando but now it’s been made official. Unlike Ehrenreich, I am very familiar with the works of Donald Glover. I knew him for his comedy and his rap career before I knew him as an actor, but after seeing him in things like The Martian and his new show on FX, Atlanta, I know that when he’s in something it’s worth watching. He’s a great comedic actor but the man can be serious when he needs to be. Just look at him and look at Lando and tell me you can’t see him playing the man. It really is casting as its finest.
So are you as excited as I am? What do you think Lando’s role will be in the movie? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on the young Han Solo movie and other things in the world of movie news.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story comes out December 16th and will be followed by Star Wars Episode 8 on December 15th, 2017. The young Han Solo movie will hit theaters sometime in 2018.
Ever since June 30th, 1997 the muggle world has a been a bit more magical. Kids grew up with tales of witchcraft and wizardry that took over popular culture. And then (for those of us who were never readers) there came the Harry Potter movies. If the world hadn’t caught on to the HP craze by then it was sure joining in after seeing those movies. Those books and movies changed a generation, and when they both came to a close the world started to seem a bit less … magical. But that’s all gonna change very soon thanks to a little thing I like to call Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
This fast coming new addition to the Harry Potter Universe is set to be something very interesting. Set in New York during the early 1900’s, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is connected to Harry and his pals in only the smallest ways. Just because we’re returning to the world of HP doesn’t mean we are returning to our pals unfortunately. But maybe all is not lost. Maybe this Scamander character will be enough to fill that whole in our hearts. And if he is, WB is gonna be making some bank soon enough.
That’s right, the alleged Fantastic Beasts trilogy has been lengthened to a quintilogy (don’t know if that’s an actual term but you’re smart, you’ll figure out the meaning). At a fan event in London on Thursday it was revealed that there will in fact be five movies in the franchised rather than just three. According to Rowling, “We always knew that it was going to be more than one movie — we knew that from the start — so we set a trilogy as a sort of placeholder, because we knew there would be more than one movie. But I’ve now done the plotting properly, so we’re pretty sure it’s going to be five movies.” So you’ve heard it from the creator’s mouth herself. Five movies, the first of which is coming out in a little over a month. Starring Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne was Newt Scamander and other fan favorites like Colin firth, this movie is gonna be something to watch out for.
So what do you think? Is this Hollywood trying to milk you of your hard earned cash or is this the real deal? Will the world ever feel as magical as it did in those early days of Harry Potter? Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them comes to US theaters November 18th, 2016.
A long time ago in a galaxy I like to call 1977 (that’s basically a whole different galaxy) a movie came out that changed cinema forever. That movie was A New Hope, the first Star Wars movie to ever hit the big screen. Within the next 6 years the Star Wars movies grew into a phenomenon never before seen in the film world. I changed lives and made nerds out of many a young man and woman in its short time on the big screen. But of course they couldn’t leave well enough alone which gave us the prequel trilogy. Let’s just say that wasn’t received very well. But now the Star Wars train is chugging at full speed again with its newest trilogy in the works, accompanied by several animated cartoons that are indeed canon. So long story short it’s a good time to be a Star Wars nerd, and it’s about to get even better.
Turner acquire the film TV rights to Star Wars. I know what you’re thinking, why does this affect me? What even is Turner? Well I’ll tell you. Are you familiar with the channel TNT? Well that first T just so happens to stand for Turner. GASP. For those of you still not getting this, I’ll spell it out. You will soon be able to watch Star Wars on TNT, which is great (assuming you haven’t already cut the cord). I mean, have you ever seen a Star Wars movie just on TV? I haven’t, but that sounds like a life I wanna live. And I will be soon
enough. And to ice that awesomeness cake, Starting September 20 there will be a marathon of the original six installments in the Star Wars franchise and they’ll do it again in December leading up to the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. So I guess I know what I’m doing next week.
As for the newest films in the franchise, don’t fret. Turner got those too in the deal, but you won’t be seeing them for a little bit. The Force Awakens won’t become Turner’s until early 2018 thanks to a deal Lucasfilm made with Stars, and as for the movies that have not yet come out each will be able to come on tv around three years after their release. I know it’s a bummer but this is kind of standard issue. But don’t fret, you can still see Rogue One a gazillion times in theaters in a few months and then just feed on that.
So how excited are you? Are you wishing you didn’t cut that cord? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on Star Wars and other things in the world of movie news.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story comes to theaters December 16th of this year.
Every few years we see new trends emerge in the world of movies. One of the best examples being the rise of the superhero genre, this is a trend that sticks around and seems to be sticking around for at least a few more years. And some trends haven’t had as much success. But one that’s trying to get its start is anime properties being turned into live action American movies. Quite a few anime properties are set to come to American theaters in the coming years, one perfect example being the well beloved manga Death Note. This property has plenty of different iterations from its own country, those being a manga, a tv series (which I highly recommend), and a few movies. And now the US has decided that we like it but we need our own version. And now we’re here.
The cast being gathered for this Remake isn’t too bad and it seems to be getting better. Willem Dafoe has been cast as the voice of our favorite shinigami, Ryuk. For all the newbs a shinigami is a god of death. Ryuk is the owner of the Death Note that is later found by the main character in this movie Light (who is to be played by that one guy from the Naked Brothers Band, Nat Wolff). Ryuk is a great bit of comic relief throughout the series and I welcome Willem into this project even though I don’t completely welcome this project.
Along with Willem and Nat, the cast includes Keith Stanfield and Margaret Qualley. Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton) will be playing L, the detective set on stopping L and Qualley (The Nice Guys) is set to play “Mia Sutton”, aka a bastardization of the character Misa Amane who is Kira’s biggest fan and partner. So if you can’t tell I’m not the happiest that this is being Americanized. I should probably get over myself. Right?
So are you with me? Or do you want an American version? Have you seen any of the other iterations? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on the American version of Death Note.
The new Death Note movie is set to hit Netflix sometime in 2017.
One of the best examples of a hit book turned to a hit film franchise, the Harry Potter movies have been a source of entertainment for adult and child alike since it first appeared on the big screen in 2001. We fell in love with these magical yet relatable characters over the course of 8 films, but that just made it harder to say goodbye. Now we are living five years post-Potter and it seems the magical wizarding world will never really leave our lives. In just a few months we will meet the famous wizard Newt Scamander (played by Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne) in the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to find Them and come July 30th the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will premiere in London’s West End. Alas not everyone has the ability to get to London, but there may be hope yet!
It seems there’s a possibility that this stage play will venture onto the silver screen sometime in the future. According to Hypable Warner Brothers (the studio behind your favorite magical franchise) filed for copyright protection for The Cursed Child in Britain on the 8th of this month. The type of protection they filed for apparently indicates that Warner Bros may be planning to make this their next addition to the Potter franchise. Now I’m saying apparently a lot because this is second hand info so take it with a grain of salt. And even if it is true that doesn’t mean that it will most certainly be used. This is just to give you a glimmer of hope for the future. You’re welcome.
So do you think I’m giving you false hope? Are you thankful you might not have to trek all the way to a foreign country to see this?
