DCEU’s All-Female Villains Movie to be Called ‘Gotham City Sirens’; David Ayer to Direct

While Suicide Squad wasn’t exactly a critical darling it did have its moments, and if you ask around about what people’s favorite part of many people will say is the characters. Well, more specifically Harley Quinn. This being the first live action film adaptation of the character, Margot Robbie pretty much knocked it out of the park. When that movie ended most people were thinking “What’s next for Harley?” and the studio picked up on that. So not long after the movie came out it was revealed that a Harley Quinn spinoff was in the works. As time went on we got more details about the project, one being that it could star several famous female villains for a Birds of Prey type of movie. Well we have some more official news that confirms this and a bit more.

The Harley Quinn spin-off has officially evolved into a movie of female villainesses 635267fd1f83ae1c99ad9da6bb3cfe86called Gotham City Sirens. David Ayer will be returning to direct this spin-off, which can be taken as good or bad depending on your feelings about Suicide Squad. For those who thought Suicide Squad was a glorified music video may be dismayed by this news. However for those who either did not think that or loved the movie for what is was should be pretty okay with this news. And the title is a pretty cool one, so that’s one more plus. It’s likely derived from the DC comics series Sirens, which stars the famous villainesses Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy. It is unclear is these are the villains they will be focusing on, only Harley is a sure bet. There is no word on the movie’s plot or if any heroes will be appearing in the villain-centric picture.

For those whdeadshot_empire_cover_png_by_messypandas-d9fdc79o are more interested in the other members of the Squad, don’t fear. Suicide Squad 2 is still in development, along with a Deadshot spin-off. GCS is just the furthest along, which isn’t a surprise considering how much everyone loved Harley. This does seem like an interesting idea, however for the whole of the DCEU I don’t know where this is gonna fit in. I wouldn’t seem to follow the storyline set in place so far. This sounds like a
nice one-shot, but just doesn’t work in the DCEU right now. What they need to do is keep focused on the main storyline they have right now. I doubt Gotham CIty Sirens connects to Justice League Part 2 in some big and influential way. But who knows? Maybe they got it all worked out. Maybe…

So do you think they’re finally on the right track? Should the DCEU just focus on the path they’re on rather than deviating? Is Harley Quinn overrated? Gotham City Sirens doesn’t have a set date yet, but we’ll be on the lookout for it.

Tim Miller leaves ‘Deadpool 2’ over Creative Differences

It’s hard to believe that only 8ish months ago the smash hit Deadpool came to theaters. The story of a lovable anti-hero turned the hero stereotype on its head with a mixture of raunchy comedy and breakage of the fourth wall. The idea of a character that no one knew being added into the movie X-Men lore in a solo film successfully is mind boggling, but it was done. That cannot be completely attributed to the film’s quality. Ryan Reynolds made people know about that movie. Thanks to his amazing viral marketing, normal people knew about that movie. So this movie was a bit of the Ryan Reynolds show, but he wasn’t the only thing that made that movie great. Director Tim Miller definitely had his hand in making the movie what it was. I can say without a doubt that movie would have been a different experience with Miller pitching in, so this recent news is a bit worrying.

Yes the title of this is correct, your eyes did not deceive. Tim Miller will not be directing Deadpool 2. While Miller was never officially set to direct the sequel, it was assumed by pretty much everyone that he would be returning. Now I know what you’re thinking, “It’s millerFantastic Four all over again. Miller probably didn’t want to be associated with another Fox trainwreck.” Luckily (?) that is not the case. Turns out the differences are between Ryan Reynolds and Tim Miller, rather than Miller and Fox. According to a report from Deadline, the split was amicable and no hard feelings are harbored between Miller and Fox. Miller will in fact be directing the Fox movie Influx, which is an adaptation of the Daniel Suarez novel of the same name. The movie is set to be the first of a trilogy.

So, what happened? If I had finished this article within a few hours of starting it I would have no answer. Luckily I am lazy and therefore I now have answers. According to TheWrap there were two major differences in the Miller and Reynold’s visions for the 991777541458ac07cc7870691074f81amovie, the first of which being that Miller (being a special effects guy) wanted a more stylized sequel, which Reynolds wanted to focus more on the raunchy comedy that got people in the theaters in the first place. Secondly, there was a disagreement over casting. As anyone who has paid ANY attention to the news of the coming Deadpool sequel (or anyone who stuck around for Deadpool‘s post-credits scene) knows, Cable is supposed make his first appearance in this film. While there has been a lot of speculation over who would take over the mantle, no one has been given the title as far as we know. Apparently Miller was rooting for Bloodline star Kyle Chandler to play the character, however Reynolds was not about him. We don’t know why but I’m sure he had his reasons.

In the end Fox knew that if they couldn’t agree then one of them would have to walk off into the sunset, and that person was Miller. I mean they couldn’t let go of Ryan Reynolds, he is Deadpool. Not like they can just switch him out with Ryan Gosling and hope no one can tell the difference. He made Deadpool and Deadpool made him. Before this one thought of The Proposal at best and Green Lantern at worst when they thought Ryan Reynolds. So while this is a shame it’s better than the opposite.

So what effect will this have on the sequel? Do you think it’ll all workout in the end? Who do you want to see play Cable? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on Deadpool 2 and other things in the world of movie news.

Deadpool 2 is set to his theaters sometime in 2018.

Anton Yelchin will Not be Replaced in Star Trek 4

In a time seemingly filled with endless death and despair you’d think that the news of another soul lost to oblivion would be overlooked because of all that we have going on in the world today, and yet a month has passed and I and many others still mourn the loss of an actor gone too soon, Anton Yelchin. Killed in a freak accident with his car, the actor was surely set to be one of the great actors of our time. And no this isn’t the rose colored glasses telling you this, this is me saying I saw something in him. Just a shame I couldn’t see more.

Yelchin was likely best known for his character Chekov in J.J, Abrams’ new Star Trek universe. This friday the third installment to this franchise comes to theaters, and with it Anton Yelchin’s final time in the role of Chekov. This movie is basically the definition of bittersweet. And as it has been stated Star Trek 4 is going to happen, so what happens to Chekov? Chekov was always a favorite of mine, but it is Yelchin that make the character. I personally would prefer Anton not be replaced, and it seems J.j. agrees.

In an interview with Postmedia Network, Abrams’ stated “I would say there’s no replacing him. There’s no recasting. I can’t possibly imagine that, and I think Anton deserves better,” Abrams said. Well put. I can’t imagine anyone taking up the mantel of Chekov in this universe. As for what would become of his character Abrams said “I have thought about it, we’re working on it, and it’s too early to talk about it,”

So at least they are honoring the talented young actor. He deserves that. Put out your thoughts in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on Star Trek 4.

Star Trek Beyond comes to theaters Friday July 22nd.

After ‘Incredibles 2’, Pixar Doesn’t Have Any Sequels on the Books Anytime Soon

Pixar is at the top of its game and rocking it. With Finding Dory ruling the box office for the third time in three weekends, there’s no doubt in my mind that they know what they’re doing. Known for fun family classics like Ratatouille, Wall-E, and Toy Story, I strongly believe Pixar is the biggest and best name in animation. And that’s something on which kids and adults both agree, what with their entertaining characters, thought-provoking stories, and life lessons that apply to any kid or kid at heart.

And the stuff Pixar has coming up is just as interesting as the stuff in the past. The most interesting of these future projects being Toy Story 4 and The Incredibles 2. Continuations of two very beloved franchises, one of these having been a while in the making. While these sequels will definitely be well appreciated, according to Pixar president Jim Morris after The Incredibles 2 in 2019 Pixar has no plans for anymore sequels anytime soon. In an interview with EW, Morris talked about the possiblities of sequels to some of our favorite films and how they decide when to make sequels.

“Most studios jump on doing a sequel as soon as they have a successful film, but our business model is a filmmaker model, and we don’t make a sequel unless the director of the original film has an idea that they like and are willing to go forward on,” Morris explains. “A sequel in some regards is even harder [than the original] because you’ve got this defined world which, on the one hand, is a leg up, and on the other hand has expectations that you can’t disappoint on.”

So he’s saying that Pixar doesn’t make sequels immediately and just to make money (although anyone who saw Cars 2 may disagree), they only do it when the time is right. That sounds like a pretty good model.

Morris says, “Everything after Toy Story and The Incredibles is an original right now.” Following The Incredibles 2 in 2019, Pixar’s next two films — currently listed on Disney’s release schedule for March and June of 2020, respectively — are both originals, independent of one another but both of which take place in “unusual but believable worlds that take us in even other directions than we’ve pursued in the past.” Following those two, Morris says, are two more original films in early development that aren’t dated on the studio’s schedule yet but are “highly likely.” No other sequels are planned at the moment, Morris says.

So it seems Inside Out 2 won’t be coming anytime. However this isn’t exactly a bad thing. All of our favorite Pixar movies were original properties (excluding Toy Story 2 3) and those became classics.

“Pete Docter [who directed Inside Out] has an original idea for his next film. Brad Bird, being the director of Ratatouille, is working on The Incredibles and we haven’t really spoken about [a sequel to] that. And WALL-E is close to my heart since I produced it,” says Morris, who shepherded the 2008 film with director Andrew Stanton. “It would be good to back and visit that world and let everybody know that the humans actually survived again after getting back to their burnt-out planet. But that was really a love story that had its beginning, middle, and end, so we’re not really planning any further stories in those worlds at this point.”

So here’s some more specific information on some fan favorites, but from this it seems after 2019 it’ll be a bit before we see any Pixar sequels on the big screen.

So are cool with more original properties? Or are you still holding out for your favorite PIxar movie to get a sequel and soon? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on the coming Pixar movies and other things in the world of movie news.

Luckily we have a bit before the sequel train stops. Finding Dory is in theaters right now. Cars 3 comes to theaters June 16th, 2017 (unfortunately). Toy Story 4 comes to theaters June 15th, 2018.And the Incredibles 2 comes to theaters June 21st, 2019.

Wreck-it Ralph 2 Gets a Release Date

When one thinks of animation the first thing that comes to most minds is Pixar. However they are not the only people animating stuff. There’s stuff like Sausage Party and Kubo and the Two Strings going on, so there’s more to animation than Pixar. Another great example is actually something Pixar adjacent: Disney. While most of their best work has been in conjunction with Pixar, there are a few gems that stick out even with the famous animation company backing them. One example of this is Wreck-It Ralph. A movie about being more than what you’re ‘supposed’ to be, Wreck-it Ralph was a heartwarming movie about a video game villain that didn’t want to be a villain. And along with that lovely premise it had great voice talent, some names being John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman.

And now that lovely family film is getting a sequel. Wreck-It Ralph 2 has just been given a March 9th, 2018 release date. It is confirmed that John C. Reilly will be returning to voice the ‘villain’ Wreck-it Ralph. the director of the original, Rich Moore, will be co-directing this sequel alongside Phil Johnston, who  co-wrote the film’s script. It is unclear at the moment who else will be joining Reilly in this sequel, but we have till 2018 so we have time.

As for plot not too much has been revealed, however John C. Reilly and a photo have given us a bit of insight about what it’ll be about. According to Reilly, “It’s top secret but I’ll tell you this much… Ralph leaves the arcade and wrecks the Internet” So if that’s not enough to reel you in I don’t know what will. And as you can see from the photo he looks like he will indeed be ‘wrecking the internet’.

So I’m pumped! How about you? Do you want other characters from the original to return? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on Wreck-it Ralph 2 and other things in the world of movie news.

Wreck-it Ralph 2 comes to theaters March 9th, 2018.

Pacific Rim 2 Gets a Release Date & Scott Eastwood Eyed for Key Role

The giant monster movie is seeming to come back and in a big way. With successes like Godzilla in our rearview mirror and movies like Kong: Skull Island just on the horizon, the future seems bright for these types of movies. However while it fun to look to the
future, we cannot forget the disappointments of the past. One in particular being Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. While the film was deemed entertaining by many, it underperformed in the domestic box office. If it had not been saved by foreign markets, the main culprit being China, the film would’ve even been consideredrs_1024x759-151215063100-1024-john-boyega-glove-star-wars-premiere-la-jr-121515 a box office failure. But luckily the film was saved and it even made enough money to warrant the making of a sequel.

And after many setbacks, Pacific Rim 2 is finally really coming together. Just recently John Boyega was attached to lead the film. He will playing the son of Idris Elba’s character from the original, Stacker Pentecost. Also Steven DeKnight (most recently known for showrunning the first season of Marvel’s Daredevil) was attached to direct the picture. And now it has an official date. February 23rd, 2018 is when we get to see the Pacific Rim universe come back to the big screen.

As for the original cast, it is unclear who, if anyone, is returning for the sequel. former m3rfwebudirector Guillermo del Toro will be working as a producer on this project. And I know this date does seem far off but trust me, it’ll be February 2018 before any of us know it.

WHoa! So some news just dropped while I was writing this, so why not just add this in instead of write a whole new article. It seems Legendary is eyeing Scott Eastwood for a lead role. As you read above, this would mean he would be joining Star Wars alum John Boyega in this sequel. It is unclear what character Eastwood would be playing in this new installment, but this movie doesn’t come out for over a year. We have time.

So what’s got you excited? Scott Eastwood possibly joining the ranks or PR2 finally getting a date? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on Pacific Rim 2 and other things in the world of movie news.

AMC’s ‘Star Trek’ Marathon to Premiere ‘Star Trek Beyond’ Early

A p

One of the best parts of movie franchises is being able to marathon them with friends and family when all the movies come out on dvd. I have spent many a Saturday marathoning franchises like X-Men and the original Star Wars trilogy with a bunch of friends. But let’s face it, the real way to marathon a franchise is in a theater. A theater that is perfectly air conditioned and has a screen bigger than some houses beats a raggedy couch and a flat screen any day. But these occurrences are a bit rarer than their at-home counterpart, so startrekbeyondposter-4whenever something like this does happen Sprom will make sure you know!

On July 20th of this year, select AMC theatres will be marathoning the new Star Trek trilogy. And yes I did say trilogy. Along with Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek into Darkness (2013), Justin Lin’s first addition in the Star Trek franchise Star Trek Beyond will be shown TWO DAYS before officially coming out in theaters. Awesome right? And for all those who were really bummed about the movie being shown at Comic Con before it came out, well this marathon happens on the same day as that. Meaning those nerds don’t really have anything to brag about (besides, you know, being able to go to Comic Con).

So you can check here to see if an AMC theater near you is participating in this awesome marathon. While not in as many states as I would like, a bunch of you are about to have a great opportunity fall into your laps. Enjoy!
