Patrick Wilson Cast in ‘Aquaman’

Aquaman was always the lesser of the Justice League memories. we called him names, teased him, and sometimes even blatantly ignored him. He just wasn’t cool like Batman or fierce like Wonder Woman. he didn’t even have the boyish charm of Superman (or I guess that’s more Clark Kent). He was just the fish guy. Well that’s all changed thanks to Jason Momoa and the DCEU. You can’t disrespect a guy when he’s frickin’ Khal Drogo. And that along with James Wan directing has really turned around one’s idea of what an Aquaman movie could be. So now we actually pay attention to the Aquaman news because this movie is looking to be a contender, and this new piece of information only further proves that fact.

Patrick Wilson has been cast as ORM in Aquaman’s first solo film. Orm, also known as Ocean Master, is Aquaman’s villanous half-brother. Would it be rude to say that he isn’t but you are no Drogo my friend. Now I don’t know to much about Aquaman mythology (who does really?) so I’m googling and I see to different storylines. While DCEU movies do cherry pick some things from the comics, more recently they’ve been dipping into the more recent comics for inspiration. This isn’t too much of a surprise considering Geoff Johns is essentially the head of the DCEU, almost comparable to that of Kevin Feige for 3020277-2772976-ocean_masterMarvel but less successful. Johns worked on the New 52 series of comics which retconned the already recently reboot DC comic book universe. It’s in this new world that Aquaman is such a badass apparently, so let’s look at who the new Ocean Master is.

According to the Atlantean advisor Vulko, the queen of Atlantis, Atlanna, left her first child, Arthur Curry, to live with his father on the surface world, thus protecting him from the effects of Atlantean tyranny. Atlanna is later forced to marry a member of the Atlantean Guard and gives birth to her second child, Orm. Twelve years later, Orm’s father is killed and Atlanna dies under unknown circumstances, making Orm the new king. Vulko accuses Orm of killing Atlanna, but fails to produce evidence and flees. When Vulko is later confronted by Arthur (who is searching for Atlantis), he explains his brother’s origins and tells him that Arthur is the rightful heir of Atlantis’s throne, and therefore, must overthrow Orm.[3]

At least that’s what Wikipedia says, but why wouldn’t you trust it? This isn’t a school paper. Just trust the internet. Anyway so that’s ORM in the New 52. Just for reference, in the original story Orm is the human half brother of AQ who was always jealous of his superhero brother, which leads him to a life of water-related crimes. I can’t really see Patrick Wilson being younger than Jason Momoa, but that will probably be tweaked for the movies. But overall I really am not feeling Patrick Wilson in this role. I mean I like The Conjuring as much as the next guy, but that doesn’t mean I want him playing the villain in a DCEU movie. But who knows? maybe this guy’ll be perfect, better than Black Manta even. Only time will tell, but what I do know is the DCEU needs to impress, and if it has only semi-impressed by this point Aquaman will hopefully cinch it.

So what do you think? Is Patty Wilson the guy the DCEU needs? Which Orm storyline do you want to see in the movies? Is Aquaman still lame? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow for more news on Aquaman and everything else in the world that is movies.

Aquaman comes to theaters October 5th, 2018, but you’ll get to see him before that in Justice League on November 17th, 2017.

‘Aquaman’ Gets Pushed Back

The DCEU has been working and working to catch up to the other superhero powerhouses of the age, and they’ve for the most part missed the mark. Their movies have been noted for being general messes that tend to divide their audience into those who hate it with a passion or love it with equal passion. This was evident with their third film, Suicide Squad, which came out this Summer to the admiration or disappointment its audience. But somehow this universe that just can’t seem to get the superhero movie right still has many waiting anxiously for the next installment. With Wonder Woman only months away now and Justice League not long after, the DCEU is something we’re all still crossing our fingers for, and this news may bum you out but it may be for the best.

Aquaman has been moved off its date of July 27th, 2018 to October 5th, 2018. It is unclear why this move has been made for a movie that is still so far off. One plausible theory is to move the film away from Mission Impossible 6. Let’s face it, those movies have had quite a bit more success in the moolah department than the DCEU films. No need for Tom Cruise mv5byjmyzjzmzjitzjywmc00mzqzlwjjymutmji4zdayzdnjyje3xkeyxkfqcgdeqxvymzy0nta5ndu-_v1_uy268_cr1470182268_al_dipping into the DCEU’s money pool. As of right now Aquaman has no competition in its new slot, and October isn’t so bad. I mean as of right now the DCEU films haven’t been doing too well, so why throw it into a Summer that will surely be packed? Not to mention even with khal Drogo himself playing the title role there is still the prejudices attached to Aquaman and in turn an Aquaman movie. They seem to be trying to avoid risk. But as earlier stated, this movie doesn’t come out for almost two years. If the response to him in Justice League is better than expected they might just movie it back up.

So what do you think? Is this a good or bad sign? Do you think Jason Momoa can carry a movie? Is Aquaman just a sea-nerd? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on Aquaman and everything else in the movie world.

Aquaman comes to US theaters October 5th, 2018. It is directed by James Wan and will star Jason Momoa as the title character, as well as Amber Heard as Mera and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko.

Willy Wonka Movie in the Works at Warner Bros.

tdy_willywonkagrab2_151111_0_d996f21baacdd533d5f34f5ac3e47df4Willy Wonka, a staple of the childhoods of many children of the late 20th century. With an iconic performance from the recently deceased Gene Wilder, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory somehow made kids that much more into candy. To be totally truthful I’ve never fully seen the movie, but I’ve heard great things. It’s on that unwritten list I have in my head of movies I need to see. But if it helps I have read the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl and it was lovely. In conclusion, from the written word to the movie screen Willy Wonka has always been awesome and worth paying attention to. And it seems there will be a new medium with which we can do that.

A Willy Wonka movie is in the works at Warner Brothers. And no I do not mean a Willy Wonka and the Chocalate Factory movie, I mean a Willy Wonka movie. According to Variety, this movie is to be a standalone film following Wonka in his early adventures. It is unclear if any of the other characters from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory will be making appearances, but I’m sure we will get confirmation on this soon enough as development on the film goes on.

While it is early in the film’s development, there are a few interesting names attached to the film at the moment. The movie is to be penned by Secret Life of Pets scribe Simon Rich and produced by David Heyman, a man who helped build the franchjohnny-depp-as-willy-wonkaise that was The Harry Potter movies and the spin-off series that is to premiere this November Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Alongside Heyman will be the manager of the Dahl Estate Michael Siegel to help produce.

Now I know what you’re thinking: “Wow, capitalizing on the death of Gene Wilder. Real classy”. Au contraire, mon frere (apologizes to anyone who knows French and is just disgusted by my used of this for one reason or another. This just felt great for the moment)! They’ve actually been trying to secure the IP since the beginning of the year, having only gotten it this Fall. So this was all pre-Wilder, so keep your panties out of a knot.

Opinion time: while I do think that Willy Wonka is a great character, I have never wanted to see him pre-chocolate factory. I’m not against it but it’s not something I’ve been longing for. That backstory from the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was enough for me. But this could be fun I guess. What could go wrong?

So what could go wrong? Do you like this idea? Who do you think they should cast to play Willy Wonka? Talk about it in the comments and don’t forget to like, share, and follow Sprom for more news on the Willy Wonka movie and everything else going on in the world of movie news.

‘Fantastic Beasts’Trilogy Becomes a Quintilogy?

Ever since June 30th, 1997 the muggle world has a been a bit more magical. Kids grew up with tales of witchcraft and wizardry that took over popular culture. And then (for those of us who were never readers) there came the Harry Potter movies. If the world hadn’t caught on to the HP craze by then it was sure joining in after seeing those movies. Those books and movies changed a generation, and when they both came to a close the world started to seem a bit less … magical. But that’s all gonna change very soon thanks to a little thing I like to call Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

This fast coming new addition to the Harry Potter Universe is set to be something very interesting. Set in New York during the early 1900’s, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is connected to Harry and his pals in only the smallest ways. Just because we’re returning to the world of HP doesn’t mean we are returning to our pals unfortunately. But maybe all is not lost. Maybe this Scamander character will be enough to fill that whole in our hearts. And if he is, WB is gonna be making some bank soon enough.

That’s right, the alleged Fantastic Beasts trilogy has been lengthened to a quintilogy (don’t know if that’s an actual term but you’re smart, you’ll figure out the meaning). At a fan event in London on Thursday it was revealed that there will in fact be five movies in the franchised rather than just three. According to Rowling, “We always knew that it was going to be more than one movie — we knew that from the start — so we set a trilogy as a sort of placeholder, because we knew there would be more than one movie. But I’ve now done the plotting properly, so we’re pretty sure it’s going to be five movies.” So you’ve heard it from the creator’s mouth herself. Five movies, the first of which is coming out in a little over a month. Starring Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne was Newt Scamander and other fan favorites like Colin firth, this movie is gonna be something to watch out for.

So what do you think? Is this Hollywood trying to milk you of your hard earned cash or is this the real deal? Will the world ever feel as magical as it did in those early days of Harry Potter? Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them comes to US theaters November 18th, 2016.
